New Delhi: Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Friday said that the government has put on hold orders of vehicle owners to compulsorily carry a valid Pollution Control Test Certificate (PUCC) from October 25 for purchasing fuel.
Pollution certificate will not have to be shown for taking diesel-petrol
Rai told reporters here, “The Diesel and Petrol Dealers Association has given some suggestions regarding law and order. These will be discussed with the Chief Minister and a decision will be taken after that.” The minister said that at present this order is not being implemented from October 25. The government had earlier asked vehicle owners to mandatorily carry a valid PUCC with them to buy fuel at petrol pumps from October 25.
More than 17 lakh vehicles do not have valid pollution certificate
According to the government’s estimate, 28% of the PM 2.5 pollution in Delhi is contributed by the smoke coming from the vehicles. According to the government, more than 17 lakh vehicles in the national capital do not have valid PUCC. Under Section 190(2) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1993, vehicle owners who do not possess a valid PUCC can be fined Rs 10,000 or punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to six months, or with both.
