The Commerce Department of the Central Government has approved work from home for a maximum period of 1 year for the Special Economic Zone. Apart from this, it has also been said in the guidelines that work from home can be implemented up to 50 percent of the total employees. The commerce department has issued a notification. The Commerce Department has issued a new rule 43A for work from home in the Special Economic Zone Rules, 2006.
Only a few categories of employees will get the benefit
The new rule issued by the Commerce Department regarding work from home will be available to only certain categories of employees living in the Special Economic Zone. IT / ITeS SEZ units will be included in this new rule. Apart from this, those people who travel will be included in this.
50% employee will get discount
According to the new rule issued by the government, only certain categories of people working in SEZ units will be allowed to work from home. According to the ministry, only 50 percent of the total employees will get the facility to work from home.
Development Commissioner will have special powers
According to the notification issued by the ministry, it has also been told that the Development Commissioner of SEZs will have special powers to ask more than 50 percent of the employees to work from home on the basis of any valid reason. However, the Development Commissioner can extend it for a period of one year at a time.
How many special economic zones in the country
At present, there are 8 Special Economic Zones in the country. This includes Santacruz (Maharashtra), Kochi (Kerala), Kandla and Surat (Gujarat), Chennai (Tamil Nadu), Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), Falta (West Bengal) and Noida (Uttar Pradesh).
What is Special Economic Zone?

Necessary facilities including land, water and electricity are provided to promote the business. Tax exemption is given for the first 5 years and after that only half of the tax is levied.
