Budget 2025 : The budget for the year 2025 is about to be presented and senior citizens have special expectations from this budget. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, Indian Railways used to give 40 to 50 percent discount on train tickets to senior citizens. Men aged 60 years or above used to get 40% and women aged 58 years or above used to get 50% discount. This facility was applicable on trains like Mail, Express, Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto. But this discount was stopped during Covid but even after the situation in the country improved, this discount was not restored again.
The benefit of 50% discount on tickets was stopped during the time of Covid
However, this discount was stopped during the pandemic. Now that the impact of Covid is over, the government has not restarted this discount. Senior citizens say that after retirement their income options become limited and the discount on train tickets used to make their travel affordable. In such a situation, the government should start giving the benefit of 50 percent discount on train tickets to senior citizens again.
Senior citizens are demanding discount on tickets
Since this facility was discontinued in 2020, senior citizens have been repeatedly demanding the government to restore it. They say that railway discounts not only provide financial relief but also give them an opportunity to travel easily to different parts of the country.
The budget will be presented on 1 February 2025, the first budget of the third term of the Modi government
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the budget on 1 February 2025. This is the first budget of the third term of the Modi government. Senior citizens hope that their demand will be included in the first budget of the third term of the Modi government. If this relief is resumed, millions of senior citizens will benefit. They will again be able to avail 50 percent discount on ticket booking in Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Express trains. Now it remains to be seen whether the government pays attention to their long pending demand or not.
