CAA Update: Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) rules may come into effect from tonight: Sources

CAA Latest News: According to information received from sources, CAA rules are likely to be implemented from today i.e. Monday night. This will be a big step by the central government before the Lok Sabha elections.

The Central Government is going to implement the rules of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019 soon. According to information received from sources, CAA rules are likely to be implemented from today i.e. Monday night. This will be a big step by the central government before the Lok Sabha elections.

The Home Ministry can notify CAA rules any time today after the Model Code of Conduct comes into force. CAA rules will ensure Indian citizenship applications of minorities in India from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh. For this, a portal has also been prepared by the government some time ago. Eligible migrants coming from neighboring countries will only have to apply online on the portal and the Home Ministry will verify it and issue citizenship.

According to CAA rules, the power to grant citizenship will rest entirely with the Centre. Under the CAA law, a provision has been made to give Indian citizenship to six minorities (Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists and Parsis) who came from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh before 31 December 2014. According to the information, displaced minorities from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan will not be required to provide any documents.

Let us tell you that the Parliament had approved the related bill in December 2019 and later after getting the President’s approval, there were large-scale demonstrations in some parts of the country against it. There were sharp reactions in the country regarding CAA. Many political parties also opposed it. For this reason, the government had delayed in framing the rules, but now MHA has made full preparations to issue the notification of CAA rules.
