New Delhi, Business Desk. Many important decisions were taken in the Union Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday at the residence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The cabinet also approved the decision of the Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana extended till November due to Corona virus. Earlier, a meeting of the Union Cabinet was held on June 24, in which the establishment of the Rs 15,000 crore Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund was approved.
In view of the need for continuous assistance to the poor and needy, the cabinet has approved the expansion of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana. It has been extended for a further five months from July 2020 to November 2020. So far, around 74.3 crore beneficiaries in April, 74.75 crore beneficiaries in May and about 64.72 crore beneficiaries in June 2020 have benefited under the scheme.
The Union Cabinet approved the development of Affordable Rental Housing Complex for Urban Migrants and the poor under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
The Cabinet has extended the threshold of benefits of “Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana” for Ujjwala beneficiaries from July 1, 2020 for the next three months.
The Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY) aims to provide protection to the poor and vulnerable people most affected by the corona virus epidemic. Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the move will benefit more than 72 lakh employees, with a total estimated expenditure of Rs 4,860 crore.
The cabinet gave its approval to infuse Rs 12,450 crore in three public sector general insurance companies, Oriental Insurance Company Limited, National Insurance Company Limited and United India Insurance Company Limited. This amount also includes an amount of Rs 2,500 crore put in the financial year 2019-20. Javadekar said that the deadline has been extended till September to provide continuous benefits to the beneficiaries. The move will cost Rs 13,500 crore.
