Taxpayers can also verify any fraudulent message from any office of DGGI or CGST online by using the ‘CBIC-DIN-Verification’ window on CBIC website https://esanchar.cbic.gov.in/DIN/DINSearch
In case of fraudulent summons, taxpayers may immediately inform the DGGI/CGST office
Recently it has been observed that some people are sending fake summons to taxpayers with the intention of committing fraud. Such taxpayers may or may not be under the purview of the investigation of Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) , Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).
The fake summons looks very similar to the original summons because of the use of the department’s distinctive logo and Document Identification Number (DIN ) . However , these DIN numbers are fake and are used by fraudsters to make the document look genuine.
It is once again clarified that taxpayers can easily verify the genuineness of any communication (including summons) issued by any officer of CBIC by using the ‘VERIFY CBIC-DIN’ window on CBIC website https://esanchar.cbic.gov.in/DIN/DINSearch .
On verifying the DIN , if any person or taxpayer finds that the summons/letter/notice is fake , the same may be immediately reported to the concerned office. This will enable competent DGGI/CGST formation to take law enforcement action against fraudsters who use fake summons/letters/notices to defraud the public. CBIC has issued Circular No. 122/41/2019- GST dated November 5 , 2019 regarding creation and quoting of DIN on messages sent by all CBIC officers.
