CBSE Board Exam Rule Changed: CBSE Board has made several necessary changes in the exam format for 2025. Class 10th and 12th board exams are scheduled to begin from February 15. Minimum attendance of 75 percent will be mandatory. There will be more emphasis on functional questions. The weightage of internal assessment has been increased.
CBSE Board Exam 2025: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has been constantly working to adapt its policies and procedures to meet the changing educational standards. CBSE has announced the dates for the 2025 class 10 and class 12 board exams. The exams will begin from February 15, 2025. Class 10 exams will run till March 18, while class 12 exams will run till April 4, 2025. In 2024, CBSE announced several reforms aimed at improving the academic experience and aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Practical exams, internal assessments and project work have already begun from January 1, 2025.
CBSE 2025 Exam Format: There are a number of changes that are set to be implemented this year 2025 but could significantly impact student preparation and exam processes. From changes in the syllabus to enhanced security, these updates reflect CBSE’s commitment to promoting analytical skills, ensuring exam integrity and supporting the needs of diverse students.
Focus on competency-based questions: Competency-based questions will form a larger part of Class 12 board exams in 2025. The move is aligned with NEP 2020, which emphasises on experiential and application-based learning. These questions are designed to test students’ ability to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world situations.
Reduction in short and long answer questions: In the year 2025, CBSE will reduce the number of creative answer questions – short and long answer questions – for both Class 10 and Class 12. It aims to move away from rote learning and encourage students to engage more deeply with their subjects. This change reflects an increased emphasis on assessing analytical and critical thinking skills.
Increased internal assessment: Internal exam assessment will now account for 40 per cent of the total marks, with the remaining 60 per cent based on the final board exam. The revised structure ensures a more holistic assessment of students’ abilities throughout the year. It includes projects, periodic tests, and assignments.
Mandatory 75% attendance and safety measures: To qualify for the 2025 board exams, students must maintain a minimum of 75 per cent attendance. Exceptions will be given for medical emergencies, participation in sporting events, or other valid reasons, provided proper documentation is submitted. Also, from 2025, all CBSE exam centres must have CCTV cameras installed in the exam halls. Schools not meeting this requirement will not qualify as exam centres.
