CGHS New Rules: Central employees will have to apply for CGHS card online, government changed the rules

CGHS New Rule: The rules for applying in CGHS have changed. Central employees will have to apply online for CGHS card. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has issued guidelines for issuing Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) cards to central government employees and central government pensioners.

CGHS New Rule : The rules for applying for a card in CGHS have changed. Central employees will have to apply online for CGHS cards. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has issued guidelines for issuing Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) cards to central government employees and central government pensioners. An office memorandum dated June 27, 2024 said that in view of the technical changes in the payment methods of CGHS, instructions have been given to issue guidelines to the users for issuing CGHS cards to employees and pensioners. How can central government employees and pensioners apply for a new CGHS card. Central government employees will have to compulsorily apply online for a new CGHS card.

The office memorandum said that central government employees in service must mandatorily apply online for a new CGHS card. A central government employee must generate a temporary reference number. This can be done online by visiting www.cghs.nic.in. He has to fill up the form available on the website and submit it online. Once this is done, he has to take a printout of the online application letter and submit the hard copy to his respective departments.

Documents Central Government Employee needs to submit along with the application letter to apply for CGHS card

1) Proof of age of son (if son is dependent)

2) Self attested copy of disability certificate issued by Medical Board of any Government Hospital (in case of dependent son aged 25 years or above)

3) Salary slip of the employee

4) Address proof

5) Documents proving dependency of family members (where applicable)

6) Copy of ID proof of dependent family members (Passport, PAN Card, Aadhaar, Voter ID Card).

If the central government employee already has a CGHS card, he/she has to submit a self-attested photocopy of his/her old CGHS card along with the form. Before filling the family details, central government employees must know the definition of family under CGHS. To make it easier for you, here is a list of people who can be considered as family and dependents.

Definition of family to apply for CGHS benefits:

1. Spouse (first wife only)

2. An employee has the option to include dependent parents or dependent parents-in-law.

3. If the adoptive father has more than one wife, then only the first wife.

4. Includes legally adopted children, step children and children taken as wards, subject to the following conditions:

i) Son: Until he starts earning or till he attains the age of 25 years.

ii) Daughter: Until she starts earning or gets married, irrespective of the age limit, whichever is earlier

iii) Son: Suffering from any permanent disability (physical or mental) as defined below: Irrespective of the age limit.

iv) Dependent divorced or separated/widowed daughters and dependent unmarried/divorced, widowed sisters: Irrespective of age limit.

iv) Dependent divorced or separated from their husbands, widowed daughters and dependent unmarried/divorced, separated from their husbands/widowed sisters: Irrespective of age limit.

v) Dependent minor sibling: Till he attains the age of majority.

vi) Dependent minor children of widowed/separated daughters: Till the age of majority.
