Rules related to talking on the phone while driving?
Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari had informed in the Lok Sabha recently about a rule related to talking on the phone while driving.
He had said that according to the rules, if a person is using the handsfree communication feature to talk on the phone while driving, then it is not considered a punishable offense, for which the driver is not fined.
Section 184 (c) of the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019 provides for punishment for the use of hand-held communication devices (devices that are used with hands) while driving a motor vehicle but the use of hands-free communication devices in the vehicle. But there is no provision of punishment.
If the police catch you?
Now if you are caught while driving while talking to the mobile phone in your hand, then the police can deduct your challan up to 10 thousand rupees.
But if you were talking using the handsfree communication feature in the vehicle and the police caught you, then they cannot deduct you for it. If still the police force you, then you can tell about this rule and go on your journey comfortably.
