Check-in time at Delhi airport: Under the new arrangement, Delhi Airport has installed around 50 Self-Service Bag Drop (SSBD) units at Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 for passengers.
Check-in time at Delhi airport: Passengers at the Delhi airport will now be able to tag their luggage themselves and print their boarding passes to complete the check-in process in less time. DIAL, the company that operates the Delhi airport, informed about the launch of this self-service system in a statement on Tuesday. Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said that due to the quick baggage ‘drop’ facility introduced under this new system, the check-in process has reduced the time taken from one minute to just 30 seconds.
It will become the second airport in the world to do so
According to the statement, with this, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport has become the first airport in the country and the second airport in the world after Toronto, Canada to introduce such a solution. Under the new system, the airport has installed about 50 Self-Service Bag Drop (SSBD) units for passengers at Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. These units are currently available with three airlines – Air India, Indigo and Air India Express.
Time will be reduced from 1 minute to 30 seconds
In the traditional system, baggage drop takes about a minute. In the new system, passengers can go ahead of the check-in desk and print their boarding pass and collect their baggage tag at the Common Use Self-Service (CUSS) kiosk. After reaching the baggage drop units, passengers have to scan their boarding pass or face the biometric cameras and place their bags on the conveyor belt, DIAL said. To make the process more efficient, DIAL has introduced a quick drop solution feature. This process does not require boarding pass or biometric verification as these details are already available on the baggage tag. This reduces the processing time from about a minute to 30 seconds.
Passengers will get a lot of convenience
Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, CEO, DIAL, said, “The Quick Drop solution not only speeds up the process but also ensures a seamless journey for our passengers.” Under the new system, passengers can collect their baggage tags from the CUSS kiosk at the airport and affix them on their luggage.
