Bathinda, [Gurprem Lahiri]. Seeing the growing shortage of laborers in Punjab, educated youth have also come to the fields. Before the lockdown, he pushed for a job for years, but now it is better to leave his dreams behind and work as a laborer. There are dozens of youth who are ready to harvest in various villages of Bathinda. Instead of degrees in their hands, bags of seeds, kassi and pinyi have started appearing. All of them believe that people are being fired from everywhere. How long will we sit like this, it is better to remove the gold from your soil.
Instead of degrees in hands, seed bags, kassi and pannery
For the first time Sonu of Bathi’s village Lahari came to work in the fields. He told that he was near BA and used to shop. During the curfew, the work went on business. Hearing about the shortage of laborers, he decided to plant paddy. Whether the workers will be known or not, at least the household income will start. You get good money per acre or daily wage.
The same mood is that of Baljinder Singh Zakhepal of village Jakhepl of Sangrur. He has done B.Ed with MA Punjabi. Passed Petate twice and Citate three times. He also did a computer course but is now busy planting paddy with his family. Jaswinder Singh of village Shahpur Kalan has also done MA Punjabi, MA History besides a degree of Librarian. He also considered farming better.
Rajinderpal Singh of village Mirjeana has an ITI. He also runs a shop in Bahniwal. In view of the problem of laborers, they are also sharing hands with the family in the fields. Paddy was not planted, hence, first learned from nearby farmers, then landed in the fields. Despite being skilled, he is not depressed with mud in the soil. Says – got a chance to work with family for the first time.
That’s why it came
Before the season of Dhan, thousands of laborers used to reach Bathinda station every year but this time no one came.
– The government did not make any arrangements for the workers and paddy season. There is no special arrangement even for the workers who want to come.
– Youth have been struggling for a long time. Prior to the curfew, the B.Ed. Tet Pass teachers had staged a sit-in strike for four months in Sangrur.
