Swords are once again drawn between young Turks and experienced leaders in the Congress. The latest example of this is the fierce debate between the youth versus senior in Rajasthan and the Rahul Gandhi vs. Sonia Gandhi faction in the meeting of Congress Rajya Sabha MPs. Senior leaders on Friday sent a letter to Sonia carrying out a signature campaign against Rahul. It calls for the appointment of a permanent chairman and transparent election of central officials.
In such a situation, a split like 1967 is being feared within the party. If 43 years of politics is seen, during this time 87 parties have been broken up from big parties like Congress, BJP and Janata Dal but only 25 are in existence. There is no name left to 62 parties.
Fears of split in congress like 1967
Party leaders believe that the Congress is once again facing situations like 1967. Then the elderly leaders under the leadership of Kamaraj had expelled Indira Gandhi from the party and Indira formed a separate party. However, she could not succeed much and after the victory in 1971 Pakistan War, Indira Congress registered a convincing victory.
AK Antony formed a party called Congress (A) in the year 1980. However, in 1982, he merged his party with the Congress. But he was not given any position in the Congress until the death of Indira Gandhi.
Former Union Minister P Chidambaram left the Congress party in 1996 and joined the Tamil Nadu unit of the Tamil Manila Congress (TMC), which broke from the Congress. In 1996, TMC formed government in collaboration with other regional and national parties. He was given the charge of Finance Minister in this government. After this, in 2004, when Manmohan Singh’s government came to power, he was again given the responsibility of Finance Ministry.
In 1996, Madhavrao Scindia left the Congress and formed a party called Madhya Pradesh Vikas Congress.
In 1986, Pranab Mukherjee left the Congress and founded his own party, the National Socialist Congress. He merged this party with the Congress in 1989.
These parties which broke away from Congress are still active
The Janata Dal broke six times in 20 years because of discord and disintegration. Breaking from this, Janata Dal United, Lok Janashakti Party, Samajwadi Party, Rashtriya Lok Dal, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Biju Janata Dal, Indian National Lok Dal, Janata Dal Secular, Rashtriya Lok Samata Party, SJD, Hindustani Awam Morcha, JAP, PSP, Jananayak Janata The party became the LJD and the Samajwadi Janata Party.
Without the BJP, these veterans could not achieve success
At the same time, 17 parties which broke away from the BJP could not save their existence. A few years after leaving the BJP, Uma Bharti, Kalyan Singh, Keshubhai Patel returned. Kalyan Singh, Janakranti Party, Uma Bharti, Janashakti Party, Keshubhai Patel, Gujarat Parivartan Party, Babulal Marandi formed Jharkhand Vikas Morcha. However, without lotus, he could not succeed in the political arena.
After forming a separate party, these veterans got command of power
