Covid-19 Millions of families got work in the midst of economic crisis, Job card issued to 83 lakh people under MGNREGA

This increase in providing job cards has come to the fore when lakhs of migrant laborers leave their jobs and are coming back to their villages.



New Delhi: Due to Coronavirus, a situation of economic crisis has arisen in the country these days. In the lockdown during the Pandemic, many sectors are facing recession, due to which the jobs of many people are in danger. Thousands and millions of people are facing threat to their jobs. Particularly, the living class working in other states and earning their livelihood has faced a huge crisis due to this epidemic. But, in the meantime, MGNREGA (MGNREGA) has emerged as a protective shield for millions of people.



During the first five months of the current year, more than 83 lakh new families have been issued job cards under MGNREGA. These job cards have been issued from 1 April 2020 to 3 September 2020. This data is available on the NREGA portal. This is an increase of 28.32 percent of the 64.70 lakh new job cards issued in the entire 2019-20 year.

This increase in the availability of job cards has come to the fore when lakhs of migrant workers are leaving their jobs and coming back to their villages. Out of 83.02 new cards issued, maximum number of cards were issued in Uttar Pradesh 21.09 lakh, 11.22 lakh in Bihar, 6.82 lakh in West Bengal, 6.58 lakh in Rajasthan and 5.56 lakh in Madhya Pradesh.



In percentage terms, the growth of new job cards is the highest (173 percent) in Uttar Pradesh – 21.09 lakh new cards, compared to 7.72 lakh last year. It is followed by Andhra Pradesh (154 percent) and Rajasthan (69 percent).
