DA Hike: Central government employees have been waiting for a long time for the announcement of increase in dearness allowance. Now their wait is going to end soon. According to media reports, the final decision on this will be taken in the cabinet meeting to be held on March 19 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Dearness Allowance (DA) is called for employees, while for pensioners it is called Dearness Relief (DR). All government employees and pensioners will get the benefit of this increase.
DA likely to increase to 55%
According to media reports, the government can announce an increase of 2 percent in dearness allowance. Due to which it will increase from 53 percent to 55 percent. Dearness Allowance is given twice every year in January and July to help deal with rising inflation. It is one of the most important parts of the salary and is a fixed percentage of the basic salary.
To give you an example, if the basic salary of an employee is Rs 1 lakh, then after a 2 percent increase, the DA will become Rs 55 thousand. With this increase, government employees will get direct benefit in in-hand salary.
Effect on salary
An entry level employee whose basic salary is Rs 18 thousand will get direct benefit from this 2 percent DA increase. At present, the employee is getting Rs 9,540 under 53 percent DA. After a 2 percent increase, DA will increase to Rs 9,900, which will increase by Rs 360. If DA increases by 3%, it will reach Rs 10,080 and there will be an increase of Rs 540.
3 percent increase in dearness allowance in July 2024
The government last increased the dearness allowance by 3 percent in July 2024, due to which DA increased from 50 percent to 53 percent. Now another increase is expected, which will provide relief to the employees.
