The Union Cabinet on Friday approved a 2% increase in dearness allowance (DA) for government employees. With this amendment, DA will increase from 53% to 55%. However, this increase in allowance is the lowest in the last few half-years.
7th pay commission: There is great news for central employees. Actually, the Union Cabinet on Friday approved a 2% increase in dearness allowance (DA) for government employees. With this amendment, DA will increase from 53% to 55%. This information has been given in the Economic Times report quoting sources. This increase in the allowance of central employees is the lowest in the last few half-years. Let us tell you that this increase has happened under the Seventh Pay Commission. Recently the government has also constituted the Eighth Pay Commission. The recommendations of the new pay commission are expected to be implemented from January 2026.
There is an increase twice a year
According to the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission, the allowance of central employees is increased twice a year. This increase is done on a half-yearly basis. The last increase was in July 2024, when the dearness allowance was increased from 50% to 53%. This shows a 3% increase. Now under the new decision, the allowance has increased by 2%. This allowance increase is from January 2025 to June 2025.
Will get 2 months arrears
The government has announced the increase in allowance in the month of March. However, central employees will also get the allowance for the months of January and February as arrears. Let us understand according to the calculation how much the salary of central employees will increase after the new increase. If the basic salary of a central employee is Rs 19000, then he used to get Rs 10,070 as dearness allowance. Now after the increase of 2 percent, this allowance has become Rs 10,450. In this sense, the allowance of central employees has increased by Rs 380 per month. Along with this, central employees will get arrears of 2 months i.e. January and February, Rs 760.
Pensioners also benefit
On the lines of central employees, the dearness relief i.e. DR of retired employees of the central government has also increased by 2 percent. After this, the pension of pensioners will also increase. Let us tell you that more than one crore central employees will benefit from the government’s decision on DA and DR.
