DA Hike Announcement Update: Central government employees are waiting for dearness allowance (DA) for the January to June half year. It is expected that the government may take a decision on this before Holi. Meanwhile, the Jharkhand government has approved a 7 per cent hike in dearness allowance of its employees. This hike will be effective from July 1 last year. This means that state government employees will also get dearness allowance as arrears.

Hike under Sixth Pay Commission

The Jharkhand government has made this hike under the Sixth Central Pay Commission. With this hike, employees will get 246 per cent DA of the current basic salary, which was 239 per cent earlier. Under the Sixth Pay Commission, the dearness relief (DR) given to pensioners has also been increased by seven per cent to 246 per cent.

Joint Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Ranjan said that DA for government employees coming under the Fifth Pay Commission has also been increased from the current 443 percent to 455 percent, which will be effective from July 1, 2024.

Bengal government also gave a gift

The West Bengal government had also announced to give allowance to the employees. West Bengal Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya had said in her budget speech that the state government would increase the dearness allowance of state government employees by four percent from April 1, 2025. This will increase the total dearness allowance of more than 10 lakh employees and pensioners of the state government to 18 percent.

Punjab government also gave relief

Recently, the Punjab government approved the payment of pending dues of Rs 14,000 crore to government employees and pensioners. The government approved the release of arrears of revised pay, pension and leave encashment for the period from January 1, 2016 to June 30, 2022 and arrears of dearness allowance from July 1, 2021 to March 31, 2024 for employees and pensioners.
