This increase will be considered effective from January 1, 2025. This decision was taken in the cabinet meeting held on 28 March 2025 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This will benefit more than one crore employees and pensioners. Now employees and pensioners are waiting to get their DA and DR.
When will the increased DA and arrears be available?
Government employees will get increased DA in the salary of April 2025. Along with this, the arrears of January, February and March 2025 will also be given together. That is, employees will get DA arrears for the entire 3 months. That is, the monthly income of the employees will increase. DA arrears of 3 months will also be given together.
How much will the salary increase in April
- If the minimum basic salary is Rs 18,000, there will be an increase of Rs 360 every month, which will give a total arrears of Rs 1,080.
- If the basic pension is Rs 9,000, there will be an increase of Rs 180 every month, which will give a total arrears of Rs 540.
- This decision will benefit about 48.6 lakh central employees and 66.5 lakh pensioners. Its annual financial burden on the government will be Rs 6,614.04 crore.
Update on next DA hike and 8th Pay Commission
The next DA hike will be applicable for July-December 2025 and is expected to be announced in October or November 2025.
In addition, after the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission recommendations, DA will be merged with the basic salary. This will change the salary structure of the employees and DA will start from zero again.
How to check DA hike status?
Central government employees can check their increased DA and arrears payment in the following ways.
- View salary slip – DA will be listed in a separate section in the salary slip of April 2025.
- Check bank statement – Check the salary received in the month of April 2025 with the previous salary. The DA hike and arrears payment will be clearly visible.
- Login to the online employee portal – Salary details can be found on the websites of many government departments or the Employee Self-Service Portal (ESSP).
- Contact HR or accounts department – If you do not get the information on the salary slip or online portal, you can contact the HR or accounts department of your department. This is a good news for government employees and pensioners. Increased salary and 3 months’ arrears will be given together. Now all eyes are on the next DA hike and the 8th Pay Commission.
