DA Hike: Again a big news has come on dearness allowance. Know which employees’ salaries have increased this time.
According to the Sixth Pay Commission (6th Pay Commission) and Fifth Pay Commission (5th Pay Commission), Dearness Allowance (DA) has been increased for some central government employees receiving salary. This has been announced by the Public Enterprise Department of the Finance Ministry through an office memorandum on 16 November 2023.
How much did dearness allowance increase?
The Central Government has increased the Dearness Allowance (DA Hike) for Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSE) employees who are paid as per the pre-revised pay scale or grade pay of the Sixth Central Pay Commission from the existing 221 per cent of the basic salary to 230 per cent. Is. This new rate of dearness allowance has come into effect from 1 July 2023.
How much will the salary increase now?
The increase in DA is calculated on the basic salary of the government employee. For example, suppose the basic salary of a central government employee is Rs 50,000 per month and he is drawing salary as per the Sixth Pay Commission. In this case, his DA at the rate of 212 per cent was Rs 1,06,000. Now according to the office memorandum dated 16 November 2023, if DA will increase from the current 212 percent to 230 percent, then DA will increase to Rs 1,15,000. This means that now the employee will get an additional benefit of Rs 9000 every month compared to earlier.
Why was DA increased?
According to the 7th Central Pay Commission, dearness allowance and dearness relief (DR) for salaried central government employees and pensioners have been increased from 42 percent to 46 percent. These new rates are applicable from July 1, 2023. However, the employees and pensioners receiving salary or pension as per the Sixth Pay Commission or Fifth Pay Commission were waiting for the increase in their DA or DR from the government.
Dearness Allowance is a component of the salary of government employees and pensioners, the objective of which is to reduce the impact of inflation. To deal with rising inflation, the salaries of government employees are reviewed from time to time. The central government changes DA twice every year in January and July. It should be noted that dearness allowance varies from employee to employee (those working in urban sector, semi-urban sector or rural sector).
