On completion of 100 days of the protest, the Joint Forum of Government Employees organized a huge rally near Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s residence.

Employees shouting slogans against the state government came out on the streets carrying banners. During this, he demanded to make contract employees permanent and increase in dearness allowance. Six percent of the salary DA
Mamta Banerjee, in a blunt reply given to the protesting employees last days also, had said that as much dearness allowance could have been increased by the government, it has been increased. Now the government does not have the capacity to make another offer. A section of state government employees is demonstrating for the demand of increase in dearness allowance. Recently, Minister of State for Finance Chandrima Bhattacharya while presenting the budget had announced a 3 percent increase in dearness allowance. DA in West Bengal is six percent of the basic salary.
Opposition party with government employees
The protesting employees say that the DA being given by the state government is much less than that of the central employees. Their demand is that state government employees should get 42 percent dearness allowance at par with central employees. Opposition parties in the state are seen standing with the protesting employees.
Mamta Banerjee had said that the salary of central employees is different from the employees working under the state government. He said that the state government employees get leave on different occasions. Banerjee also said that West Bengal is a state which still gives pension (to retired people). The government spends 20,000 crores on this.
