7th Pay Commission: All the central government employees are eagerly waiting for the July DA hike. It is likely to be announced soon. However, till now there is no official announcement on the date of announcement of DA Hike. According to media reports, this decision can be announced in the month of September 2023. According to the report, the retail inflation rate in the country has reached the highest level of 15 months in July, in which case the government can increase Dearness Allowance by 3% to 45%. This increase in DA will be considered applicable from 1 July 2023.

Government will increase DA by 3 percent

The dearness allowance for central government employees and pensioners is calculated on the basis of CPI-IW released by the Labor Bureau every month. Shiv Gopal Mishra, general secretary of the All India Railwaymen’s Federation, had said a few days ago that the CPI-IW for June 2023 was released on July 31, 2023. We are demanding a four percentage point hike in the dearness allowance. But the increase in dearness allowance is a little more than three percentage points. The government is not considering increasing DA beyond a decimal point. Thus DA is likely to increase by three percentage points to 45 percent.

Increases DA twice a year in January and July

He said that the Finance Ministry’s Expenditure Department will prepare a proposal to increase DA on the basis of its revenue and the proposal will be placed before the Union Cabinet for approval. Only after that the hike in DA will be announced. At present, more than one crore central government employees and pensioners are getting 42% dearness allowance. While central government employees get DA, pensioners are given DR. DA and DR are hiked twice a year – January and July.

When was DA increased last?

The last DA hike was done in March 2023 and it was increased by 4 per cent to 42 per cent. This increase was considered applicable from 1 January 2023. Now considering the inflation rate, before the festivals, an increase of 3 percent in DA can be seen.
