According to the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission, dearness allowance is revised twice a year. The first amendment of the year comes into effect from January, while the second change is implemented from July. The increase to be implemented from January is usually announced in March. Holi festival is also in March and Lok Sabha elections are also expected to be announced in March, after which the code of conduct will be implemented in the country. In such a situation, the expectation of announcement of increase in dearness allowance during the first-second week of March has increased.
Currently the rate of dearness allowance is this much
At present the rate of dearness allowance is 46 percent. It was last increased in October 2023. At that time the Central Government had increased dearness allowance by 4 percent. If this time too an increase of 4 percent is made, then dearness allowance will now increase to 50 percent.
For this reason the provision of dearness allowance
Dearness allowance is a part of people’s salary. Its calculation is done on the basis of percentage of basic salary. Just as employees i.e. salary earners get the benefit of dearness allowance, similarly pensioners get the benefit of dearness relief in their pension. The Seventh Pay Commission has made the provision of DA and DR to protect the earnings of employees and pensioners from the impact of inflation.
These people started getting benefits
Even though central government employees and pensioners are still waiting for the increase in DA, some state government employees have already started getting its benefits. For example, the government of West Bengal has increased the DA for its employees by 4 percent. The Punjab government had also increased DA by 4 percent in December. The Uttar Pradesh government has increased the dearness allowance of roadways employees by 10 percent this month.
