But its date was not fixed. Earlier it was likely to be announced around Holi. However, due to non-availability of cabinet meeting, it could not be announced in the last two weeks. Now a special cabinet meeting has been called on Friday. In this, there is bound to be a big announcement for the central employees.
4% DA approved
The track record of the Modi government has been that it takes such decisions, which no one thinks about. If sources are to be believed, the cabinet meeting was proposed on Wednesday, but it was not done due to some reasons. That’s why the government has called a special meeting of the cabinet on Friday (March 17).
The agenda of this meeting is to approve the dearness allowance. The government can seal the increase in dearness allowance. Let us inform, dearness allowance has increased at the rate of 4% in January 2023 for central employees. After this increase, his dearness allowance has reached 42%. Till January, he was getting paid at the rate of 38%.
Finance Ministry will issue notification
The cabinet meeting was not held on Wednesday due to some reasons. Now the cabinet meeting is to be held on Friday. In this, 4% dearness allowance will be approved. After this, the Finance Ministry will issue its notification. As soon as the notification is issued, dearness allowance will be paid to the central employees with a 4% increase in the salary for March.
In this, arrears of two months January and February will be given. The total dearness allowance of employees with a basic salary of Rs 18,000 will increase by Rs 720 per month. They will also be given arrears in the same proportion.
Pensioners will also get benefit
The government refused to give the arrears of dearness allowance for 18 months during the recent Lok Sabha session. In such a situation, the increase in dearness allowance of 4% will be a great relief. With this, pensioners will also benefit along with the employees. There are a total of more than 52 lakh pensioners and more than 60 lakh central employees. The dearness allowance and dearness relief of all these are set to increase.
Why only 4% DA Hike happened?
The Labor Bureau calculates dearness allowance and dearness relief for employees and pensioners under the 7th pay commission. For this, calculation is done on the basis of Consumer Price Index (CPI-IW). The Labor Bureau is part of the Ministry of Labour. For January 2023, 4% has been increased.
From the CPI-IW data released on January 31, 2023, it was decided that there would be an increase of 4.23% in dearness allowance. But, it is given in round figure, so the total increase is 4%. Now it has to be approved.
