DA hiked by 3%: The central government has announced a 3% increase in the dearness allowance (DA) of central employees and pensioners. This will provide great relief to government employees. The government has made this announcement on 16 October 2024. After this increase, now both dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR) have become 53%. More than 1 crore central employees and pensioners will get the benefit of this decision.
Increased allowance will be implemented from July, will be available in October
This increase in dearness allowance and dearness relief will be considered effective from July 1, 2024. However, its official announcement has been made in October. The central government reviews DA and DR every year in January and July, but it is announced after a few months. Employees and pensioners will get this increased dearness allowance in the salary of the month of October. Along with this, they will get DA arrears for the last three months i.e. July, August and September. Along with this, pensioners will also get DR arrears of three months.
How much did the salary of government employees increase?
The increase in dearness allowance also increases the salary of employees, because DA is an important part of their salary. If the basic salary of an employee is Rs 46,200, then earlier he used to get Rs 23,100 as per 50% DA. Now after an increase of 3%, this rate has become 53%, due to which he will get Rs 24,486 as dearness allowance. According to this, his salary will increase by Rs 1,386. If calculated for the whole year, then there has been a total increase of Rs 16,332 annually. Now three months’ DA arrears of Rs 4,158 will also come in the October salary. Along with this, the government will also transfer the Diwali bonus.

How much will the pension of pensioners increase?
Like dearness allowance, the dearness relief (DR) of pensioners has also been increased by 3% to 53%. This will also increase their pension. For example, if a pensioner gets a basic pension of Rs 50,400, then earlier he used to get Rs 25,200 as per 50% DR. Now the DR has increased to 53%, due to which he will get dearness relief of Rs 26,712. Thus, there will be a monthly increase of Rs 1,512 in his pension.
Relief step for employees and pensioners
This decision of the government is a relief step for employees and pensioners, which will increase their monthly income. The central government reviews the rates of dearness allowance twice every year so that employees and pensioners can get relief from the impact of inflation. This time too, the government has made this increase keeping inflation in mind, which will provide financial assistance to more than 1 crore central employees and pensioners.
