Delhi Metro 2 New Corridor: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved two new metro corridors. This will include the metro route between Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block and Indralok to Indraprastha.
Delhi Metro 2 New Corridor: There is good news for those traveling by Delhi Metro, which is considered the lifeline of Delhi-NCR. The Central Government has approved 2 new metro corridors under Phase 4 of DMRC in the Union Cabinet meeting on Wednesday. Cabinet Minister Anurag Thakur told in the press briefing that the government has approved two new corridors inside Delhi Metro. On which Rs 8400 crore will be spent. This will include the metro route between Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block and Indralok to Indraprastha.
Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block Metro Corridor
Anurag Thakur said that the first corridor is about 8.4 km metro line from Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block. There will be 8 stations in it, all of which will be elevated stations.
Indralok to Indraprastha Metro Corridor
The second corridor will be from Indralok to Indraprastha. There will also be a 12.4 kilometer long metro line. It will have underground 11.4 and elevated 1 kilometer long routes. There will be a total of 10 stations, of which 9 will be underground and 1 will be elevated.

The project will be completed by 2029
He told that the projects of both these metro corridors will be completed by March 2029. Overall, a 20.7 kilometer long metro line is being built, on which Rs 8,400 crore will be spent.
Where will the expenses be met?
This project will be completed by DMRC, a joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of UT (Delhi). Out of which Government of India will spend Rs 1547 crore, JICA loan of Rs 4309 crore will be used, UT Government will spend Rs 1987 crore, DMRC will spend Rs 333 crore and Rs 195 crore will be taken from PPP component.
Common man will get relief
Thakur said that 945 kilometers of metro lines are in the country today and 919 kilometers of metro lines are under construction in the country today, work on which is going on at a fast pace. These two new corridors within Delhi will provide relief from traffic congestion and pollution and will also save expensive fuel. Citizens will have to spend less time in traffic and their travel time will also reduce. This will increase people’s ease of living.
Three metro corridor projects were started in 2019 also
The Cabinet Minister said that in 2019 also, 3 similar metro corridors were approved. Aerocity-Tughlakabad, RK Ashram Marg to Janakpuri West and Majlis Park to Maujpuri. Work worth about Rs 24,950 crore is also going on on these metro corridors. It will be completed by 2026.
