Delhi Metro is going to complete 19 years since it started on 25th December. In such a situation, DMRC can also make this occasion more special by starting driverless train operation on the same day on Pink Line. Further planning is being done in this regard.

The way to start the operation of driverless metro trains on the longest Pink Line of Delhi Metro is almost cleared. On Monday, the Commissioner Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) examined the safety standards and technical arrangements required for driverless train operation on this 58.4 km long metro section between Majlis Park and Maujpur. According to sources, during this inspection, which lasted for about 4-5 hours, no significant problem was seen anywhere.

It is believed that by the end of this week, CMRS can give green signal for operation of driverless trains on Pink Line, after which DMRC will be able to formally start operating unattended trains on this line as well. It is expected that by the end of this month or from next month, driverless trains will also start running on this second line of Delhi Metro. Delhi Metro is going to complete 19 years since it started on 25th December. In such a situation, DMRC can also make this occasion more special by starting driverless train operation on the same day on Pink Line. Further planning is being done in this regard.

Delhi Metro had built two completely new metro lines between Majlis Park to Maujpur and Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden in Phase-3, using this new technology, Unattended Train Operation System was installed on them, so that with the help of more Metro trains can be run in a safe way. Out of these, the operation of driverless trains between Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden on the 37.5 km long Magenta Line had started in December last year itself, but due to the incomplete work of Metro in Trilokpuri area, DMRC on Pink Line started this system. Haven’t been able to start yet.

In August this year, only after the commencement of metro operation on Trilokpuri section, the way to start driverless train operation on Pink Line was cleared. Since during this time DMRC was also installing necessary signaling system for driverless train operation on the new section between Mayur Vihar Pocket-1 to Trilokpuri-Sanjay Jheel, due to this the trains on this section were also passing at controlled speed, but since Now that the work of installation of signal system has been completed, then the metro will be able to pass at normal speed from around Trilokpuri as well. Also, now this entire route has been made ready for operation of driverless trains.

In Phase-4, DMRC is going to build a new corridor between Majlis Park and Maujpur by extending the Pink Line. On that too a metro line will be laid using the same technology. In such a situation, after Phase-4, more than 100 km of Delhi Metro will come under driveless train operation and it will be about 9 percent of the total operation of driverless metro in the world, which will be a huge achievement in itself.
