Indira Gandhi International Airport (New Delhi Station to IGI Airport) will now be able to reach in just 15 minutes from the capital’s New Delhi Railway Station.

This will be possible because the speed of the metro will be increased to 120 km per hour on the Airport Express Line and its trial is going on and it will be approved soon. With the increase in the speed of the metro on this route, lakhs of commuters will get a chance to travel in the fastest running metro in Delhi.

Last year, trials were started to increase the speed of the metro train in a range of 22 km. Now after the inspection of the Delhi Metro Rail Safety Commissioner, approval will be given to increase the speed of the metro. This line is being extended from Dwarka Sector-25 to India International Convention Center.

Current speed 80-85mph

At present, the speed of the metro on this line is 80-85 km per hour. But when the speed is 120 km. If it becomes hourly, it will take only 15 minutes to reach Terminal-3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport from New Delhi Railway Station.

Dwarka Sector 25 (IICC) is an underground metro station. It is an extension of the currently operational Airport Express line connecting New Delhi Railway Station to Dwarka Sector 21 via Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport. With the completion of this section, the New Delhi to Dwarka Sector-25 (IICC) Airport Express Line corridor will become 24.70 km long.

These facilities will be available at IICC station

The station will have five entry/exit points with 14 escalators, 5 lifts as well as stairs for smooth movement of passengers. Like other stations on the Airport Express Line, the new station will also have full height platform screen doors.

According to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, high frequency tension clamps are being installed on the track of this corridor and the track is being equipped with equipment to monitor the speed at all times and the speed of the metro will be increased here in different phases. There are 6 metro stations on the Airport Express Line including New Delhi, Shivaji Stadium, Dhaula Kuan, Aerocity, Airport Terminal 3 and Dwarka Sector-21.
