Diesel Car Ban: The committee constituted on energy transition has suggested a ban on diesel-run vehicles in big cities by the year 2027. However, the Petroleum Ministry has made it clear that the government has not yet accepted the recommendation to ban diesel four-wheelers in cities with a population of more than one million.

The committee constituted on energy transition has suggested the adoption of electric and gas-powered vehicles along with banning diesel-powered vehicles in big cities by the year 2027. Apart from this, the committee headed by former petroleum secretary Tarun Kapoor has also recommended phasing out of conventional engine-powered motorcycles, scooters and three-wheelers by 2035.

In a tweet on Wednesday, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas clarified the position on the recommendation of this committee and said, “The ministry has received the report of the committee constituted on energy transition. However, the Government of India is yet to accept this report of the committee.” In this report submitted to the government in February last, it has been said that no new diesel bus should be run in urban areas for about 10 years.
