Validity of Driving License: The Road Ministry has issued an order extending the validity of Learner License, Driving License and Conductor License till February 29, 2024. The ministry did this due to infrastructure-related issues in its ‘Sarthi’ portal. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said in a circular that the Sarathi portal will see infrastructure-related issues from January 31, 2024, to February 12, 2024. In such a situation, applicants have faced disruption in availing license related services.
Valid till 29th February
The Road Transport Ministry said that in view of this, such learner license, driving license and conductor license, whose validity has expired between January 31, 2024 and February 15, 2024, will be considered valid till February 29, 2024 without imposing any penalty.
The ministry said that due to partial closure of online services, there was difficulty in applying for services like payment of applicant fee, renewal of driving license, slot booking for learner’s license, driving skill test.
Why did the government extend the deadline?
It said enforcement officers are also advised to consider such documents valid till February 29, 2024. The ministry said the decision has been taken keeping in mind the difficulties faced by citizens during the period of disruption in services through the transport portal.
In order to avoid inconvenience to the citizens, it has been decided that all the learner licenses, driving licenses and conductor licenses which have expired between January 31, 2024 and February 15, 2024, they will be considered valid till February 29, 2024 without imposing any penalty.
