State Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has appealed to the people to use cycles more.
n order to encourage the use of electric vehicles in Haryana, the state government has decided to subsidize their purchase. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced this on Wednesday. He said that plans are also being made to run e-buses and e-autos in the state.
Khattar, state ministers and BJP MLAs covered the distance from the Chief Minister’s official residence in Chandigarh to the Haryana Civil Secretariat on Wednesday. Khattar has cycled on this route in the past as well.
He appealed to the people to use cycles more and said that it is an economical and eco-friendly mode of travel.
Khattar later moved from the secretariat to his residence in an electric vehicle.
He said that people consider vehicles as a sign of status and because of this, the employees and officers living near the office also use vehicles for short distances. He said that now emphasis will also be laid on running e-buses and e-autos in the state.
Khattar also asked people to take a pledge to do car pooling and walk or cycle to nearby places.
Even before this, some state governments have announced subsidies to increase the use of electric vehicles.
