In a big announcement, the state government has announced an increase of 3.75 percent in dearness allowance for the state employees.
Increase in dearness allowance and dearness relief
Under the announcement made by the Karnataka government, all employees and pensioners of the state will see an increase in dearness allowance and dearness relief. This increase will also apply to pensioners including state employees. In an order, the government said that the current rate of inflation rate is being increased by 35%. It is being increased to 38.75%.
Payment of 3 months arrear amount also
This increase will be effective from July 1, 2023. In such a situation, 3 months’ arrears amount will also be paid to lakhs of state government employees and pensioners. Describing it as a Dussehra gift for the employees, the government said that the increased rate of dearness allowance will be applicable from July 1. The announcement comes as UGC, AICTE, ICAR scale lecturers and judicial officers will get the benefit of 4% increase in their dearness allowance.
The increase in dearness allowance and dearness relief will see an additional burden of Rs 1109 crore on the state government. Earlier, the benefit of dearness allowance at the rate of 35% was being given to the state employees and pensioners of Karnataka, now it has been increased by 3.75%.
