Government employees on Wednesday called off their indefinite strike after the Karnataka government announced a 17 per cent hike in basic pay as an interim relief and constituted a committee on pension scheme.
The employees had demanded interim relief of 40 per cent hike in basic pay and revision of pay as per the Seventh Pay Commission. This order will be applicable to the employees of local bodies and government-aided educational institutions under the state government. The local bodies will bear the cost of the benefits to the employees working there.

In its order, the government said, “The state government has constituted a committee headed by the additional chief secretary to study the steps taken by the states which have revived the old pension scheme and submit a report.” The committee will visit the states where the new pension scheme has been discontinued and the old pension scheme has been introduced and will submit a report in two months.
Karnataka State Government Employees Union President CS Shadakshari announced the decision to call off the indefinite strike that began today. “In view of the response of the state government to the demands of the Karnataka State Government Employees Association, the strike has been called off with immediate effect,” Shadakshari said in a statement.
He also thanked all the government officers and employees who participated in the strike and made it successful. During this period, many primary schools did not function due to non-availability of teachers while out-patient department (OPD) in some government hospitals was also affected.
However, the strike had little impact on transport services as Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) buses operated normally. Police personnel were deployed at prominent places to ensure that there was no law and order problem due to the strike.
