The famous all-rounder Ben Stokes who was the hero for the England Cricket team in the 2019 World Cup has bid his farewell to 50-over cricket. Ben Stokes, England’s most dependable player, has left the OneDay Internationals to focus on Test cricket and T20is. He is currently the captain of the England cricket team in red-ball cricket. Stokes, in combination with Brendon McCullum, has changed the philosophy of the England cricket team in the longest format of the game.
Ben Stokes announced his retirement from ODIs via an Instagram post. He wrote that he was grateful for playing 104 ODI matches and feels that he can’t give his 100% to the team in this format anymore. He wants to concentrate on Tests and T20is. However, this has created problems for the England Cricket Board as they have already lost their captain Eoin Morgan earlier in the year.Â
ODI World Cup 2023 is nearing, and finding a replacement for Stokes is a huge task for England. Who can be as dependable as Stokes with both and ball in ODIs? Perhaps England think tank has picked Sam Curran as the replacement. Curran has shown exponential growth in the last few years. His run in IPL and Test cricket has been phenomenal. However, he is yet to make his mark in the ODIs. He is one of the best all-rounders in world cricket
Curran is quite similar to Stokes in many aspects. He bats left-handed and bowls medium pace. He has shown the same level of confidence and competitiveness that the former England all-rounder has shown in his matches in ODIs. However, whether he will be able to emulate the success of Stokes in ODIs remains to be seen.
Stokes will now play for CSK in IPL 2023. Let’s see how will he perform
