EPFO has now made e-nomination mandatory. If a PF subscriber dies, then online claim and settlement of provident fund, pension, insurance benefits is possible only when e-nomination is done.
New Delhi. Employees’ Provident Fund Organization has now made e-nomination mandatory for EPF members. By the way, in any savings scheme account, it is necessary to declare the nominee by the account holder and it is also beneficial to do so. With this, after the death of the account holder, the money goes to the person to whom the account holder wanted to give. EPF account holders without a nominee can no longer avail certain facilities of EPFO.
E-nomination is very helpful in getting PF benefits to the PF account holder and his family. If a PF subscriber dies, then online claim and settlement of provident fund, pension, insurance benefits is possible only when e-nomination is done. So now it has been made mandatory by EPFO.
Family member becomes nominee
PF account holder can nominate only his family members. If a person does not have a family, then he can also declare another person as his nominee. After making someone else a nominee, if the family is known, then the nomination of the non-family member stands cancelled. If the employee has not mentioned the nominee and the employee dies, then his heir has to approach the civil court to get the succession certificate for release of PF.
Can there be more than one nominee?
PF account holder can also declare more than one nominee. If there is more than one nominee, more nomination details have to be given and it has to be clearly mentioned that which nominee will get the amount.

Now EPFO has made e-nomination mandatory. If an account holder does not do e-nomination, then he cannot see his PF account balance and passbook. For e-nomination, it is necessary for the account holder to have an active UAN and mobile number linked with Aadhaar.
How to do e-nomination
- Log on to the official website of EPFO, epfindia.gov.in.
- In the ‘Services’ tab, click on the ‘For Employees’ tab from the drop-down menu.
- Now log in with your UAN.
- The Manage tab will appear. In this select e-nomination.
- Now enter your permanent and current address.
- To change the family declaration, select Yes.
- Enter nominee details and click on save.
- Now proceed by clicking on the e-sign icon.
- Enter your Aadhaar number and also fill the OTP received on the registered mobile number.
- After completing this process, now your nomination will be updated.
