EPFO: Employees associated with EPFO can now avail Universal Account Number (UAN) and related services through face verification. Union Labor Minister Mansukh Mandaviya gave this information on Tuesday. Mandaviya also announced full notification of six districts of Bihar – Araria, Saharsa, Aurangabad, Banka, East Champaran and Gopalganj under the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC). This will bring about 24,000 additional insured employees under the purview of ESIC’s social security schemes.

What is the detail

Mandaviya told reporters that the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has launched advanced digital services to allocate and activate UAN of Provident Fund through face verification. This is a significant step towards contactless, secure and fully digital service delivery for crores of EPFO members. He said that now employees can directly generate their UAN using Aadhaar Face Verification Technology (FAT) with the help of ‘UMANG’ mobile app. Any employer can use UMANG app to generate UAN using Aadhaar FAT for any new employee.

The Labour Minister said that members who already have UAN but have not activated it yet can now easily activate their UAN through Umang app. He said that in the coming days, EPFO will also promote digital life certificate by providing ‘Jeevan Pramaan’ with face verification technology in collaboration with ‘My Bharat’ to deliver services to pensioners at their doorstep. In the financial year 2024-25, EPFO allotted 1.26 crore UANs. However, out of these, only 44 lakh UANs were activated by the members. On the expansion of ESIC in Bihar, the Union Minister said that at present, out of the total 38 districts of Bihar, 27 districts are fully notified and 11 districts are partially notified. After the notification regarding six districts is issued, this number will increase to 33 districts.
