Pensioners have to submit life certificate every year. Failure to do so puts you at risk of stopping the pension. According to EPFO, pensioners of EPS 95 can submit their life certificate anytime in a year without any deadline.
EPFO Latest Update: EPFO has taken a new initiative to reduce the problems faced by the pensioners. Under the initiative being taken under the Amrit Mahotsav of Azadi, some new facilities are being given to the retiring employees by EPFO. The EPFO has not only removed the deadline for submitting a life certificate, but now arrangements have been made to give ‘pension payment order’ to the employees on the day of retirement itself.
Regional offices of EPFO doing webinar
EPFO has said in a recent tweet, ‘Seamless service’ by EPFO: Subscribers will be able to get Pension Payment Order (PPO) on the day of retirement. All the regional offices are organizing monthly webinar titled ‘Prayas to issue PPO on retirement day’. Employees retiring within three months are being invited along with employers for guidance and training in webinars. This initiative will benefit about 3 lakh employees who retire every year.
Submit life certificate anytime
Earlier, EPFO had told that now pensioners can submit Life Certificate i.e. Jeevan Patra at any time during the whole year, which will be valid for the next one year. Pensioners have to submit life certificate every year. Failure to do so puts you at risk of stopping the pension. According to EPFO, pensioners of EPS 95 can submit their life certificate anytime in a year without any deadline. This certificate will be valid for the next one year from the date of submission. That is, if a pensioner submits his life certificate on 15 April 2022, then the next time he will have to submit the life certificate anytime before 15 April 2023.
Relief to these employees of private sector
Under the purview of this scheme of EPS 95, private sector employees get the benefit of pension. EPFO had changed the rules for submitting life certificates for such employees in December 2019. Along with this, the EPFO did away with the obligation to submit the life certificate in the month of November every year and gave flexibility to the beneficiaries to submit it anytime during the whole year. This new initiative of EPFO will give a big relief to the employees working in the private sector.
