ESIC: The ESI scheme is run by the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation for low-income people. Under this, the ESI card is issued to the employees and the people dependent on it. On the basis of the ESI card, the employee can get free treatment at the ESI Hospital.
There are more than 150 ESIC hospitals in the country, here facilities for treatment of all types of diseases are available. The benefit of ESIC is available to employees earning 21 thousand or less. The minimum wage limit for physically handicapped persons is Rs 25000 per month.
Contribution is made by both the employee and the employer towards payment of ESIC premium. Employees covered under ESI get free treatment. In this, apart from the insured, other family members dependent on him are also provided free treatment. Under this, there is no maximum limit on the cost of treatment. However, this is not the case in medical insurance.
Retired employee and permanently disabled insured person, his/her spouse gets medical facility at a premium of Rs.120 per annum. In this, 91 days of cash is paid to the insured for sick leave.
Maternity leave is also available through ESI. Under this, the female employee is paid 26 weeks of maternity leave during delivery and 100 percent of the average salary for six weeks in case of abortion.
In case of death of the insured during employment, a maximum of Rs 10,000 is given by ESIC for his funeral. Apart from this, the dependents are given monthly pension in fixed proportion. There are three parts to the pension.
In case of temporary disability due to any reason, the insured person is given monthly pension for the whole life till he recovers and in case of permanent disability. Dependents get unemployment allowance, pension, free treatment after retirement.
