The central government has made an important change regarding family pension. The employees of the Ministry of Defense will get the benefit of this. According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Defense, it has been decided to increase the income criteria for giving family pension to mentally or physically challenged children and siblings.
At present, a disabled child or a sibling of the deceased pensioner is eligible for family pension. However, family pension is available only to those whose external income does not exceed Rs 9,000. This benefit can be taken by the family whose total income from other sources is equal to or less than 30 percent of the last salary of the deceased government employee / pensioner and the Dearness Relief Allowance sanctioned thereon. The financial benefits in such cases will be effective from February 8, 2021.
As per Rule 54(6) of the Central Civil Services (Pension) Rules, 1972, a mentally or physically disabled child/sibling of a deceased Government servant or pensioner is eligible for family pension for life. Pension is given under this rule. Let us tell you that in the past, Union Minister Jitendra Singh had also talked about changes in the rules of pension.
