Famous Cream ‘Fair & Lovely’ may be renamed ‘Glow & Lovely’

Hindustan Unilever Limited has now applied for trademark registration for ‘Glow and Lovely’. The company has decided to remove the word ‘Fair’ from the Fair & Lovely Cream product.

new Delhi. You can get the name ‘Glow & Lovely’ in the market soon instead of ‘Fair & Lovely’. Hindustan Unilever (HUL-Hindustan Unilever), a company that makes many such products of daily consumption including oil, soap, has now applied for trademark registration for ‘Glow and Lovely’. The company has decided to remove the word ‘Fair’ from the Fair & Lovely Cream product.

 New name ‘Glow & Lovely’-  Unilever, a subsidiary of multinational company Unilever PLC, has not announced a new name for its’ Fair & Lovely’ product but the company has’ Controller General of Patent Design & Trademark ’17 June 2020 Has applied to register the name ‘Glow and Lovely’. According to the portal related to this, the company’s application has been sent for “Vienna codification”.



When contacted Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) in this regard, the company spokesperson said that trademark protection is an important aspect for any brand and in this case the company has applied for several trademarks in 2018.

 

Why the name of Famous Cream ‘Fair & Lovely’ was changed – This step of the company is being taken at a time when voices are being raised worldwide against racial discrimination. However, the company says that its move has nothing to do with the ongoing anti-racism movement in Western countries. She said that she has been working for many years to improve her brand of two thousand crore rupees.

The company said that in the case of its other products related to skin care, a new holistic approach will be adopted, in which every complexion will be taken care of.

Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (HUL) said in a statement, “The company is taking steps to make the brand more inclusive from the point of view of beauty.



Under this, the company will remove the word ‘Fair’ from its brand ‘Fair and Lovely’. Regulatory approval is awaited for the new name. We are expecting a change in the name in the next few months.

The company will also announce new names for ‘Fair and Lovely Foundation’ under this change. This foundation was formed in 2003 with the intention of giving stipend to women to help them complete their education.

HUL Chairman and Managing Director Sanjeev Mehta said, “Apart from changes in Fair & Lovely, other products related to HUL’s skin care will also reflect a new approach to positive beauty.”

Asked whether this move of the company has any relation with the anti-racist movement, Mehta told PTI, “This is not a decision that we have taken today. Its story has been going on for many years.

He said, “A big brand, a brand which is worth two thousand crores and the company is based on analysis like ours, then no such changes are done without extensive research.



This is something that has been thought about for many years and after extensive research, once we have understood what the impact of this change will be and the changing needs of consumers, then we have decided about it. .

Mehta said that the company had filed an application for change of name only last year and had not yet disclosed it to avoid fake products.

He said that in 2019, we made other changes by removing the picture of two faces from Fair and Lovely. Also we used ‘Glow’ instead of ‘Fairness’ for the brand ‘Communication’ which is more inclusive in terms of healthy skin assessment.

Mehta claimed that the change has been well received by the customers and added that the regulatory approval for the new name is awaited. The product with the revised name will be available in the market in the next few months.

Mehta said that currently 70 percent of Fair and Lovely sales are in rural areas, while the remaining 30 percent of sales are in urban markets.
