FASTag New Rule: If you drive and travel on the highway, then you must be aware of FASTag. It is an electronic toll collection system through which payment can be made without stopping at the toll plaza. However, now the government has implemented some new rules regarding FASTag. If you do not follow these rules, then you may have to pay a heavy penalty. Let us know what are the new rules and what things you should keep in mind.
What is FASTag?
FASTag is an electronic sticker that is pasted on the windscreen of the vehicle. It has a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chip which is linked to your bank account or wallet. When the vehicle passes through the toll plaza, it automatically deducts the toll tax amount, saving both time and fuel.
What are the new rules of FASTag?
New rule of blacklisting:
- If your FASTag is blacklisted one hour before or 10 minutes after being read at the toll plaza, then payment will not be made.
- If there is not enough balance in the FASTag or it is blocked due to any other reason, the transaction will be rejected.
- For violating the rules, the vehicle owner will have to pay double the toll tax.
For what reasons can FASTag be blacklisted or blocked?
- If the balance in the FASTag account is low.
- If the toll tax is not paid.
- In case of payment failure.
- If KYC is not updated.
- If there is a problem with the chassis or registration number of the vehicle.
What to do to avoid blacklisting?
Keep KYC updated:
If KYC is not updated, your FASTag may be blocked. So keep updating it from time to time.
Maintain sufficient balance:
Before a long trip, check the FASTag balance so that extra toll charges can be avoided.
Use the MyFASTag app:
With the help of this app, you can check your balance and also get other information.
What should be the minimum balance?
NHAI has removed the requirement of minimum balance, but vehicle owners should keep a balance of at least ₹ 100 in their FASTag so that there is no problem at the toll plaza.
If FASTag is blacklisted, will you be able to leave the toll plaza or not?
If your FASTag is blacklisted, you can still leave the toll plaza, but for this you will have to pay double the toll tax. This payment can also be made in cash.
How to recover a blacklisted FASTag?
- Recharge immediately to re-activate the FASTag.
- If KYC is not updated, contact the concerned bank.
- Check the status by going to the ‘Check Balance & Status’ section of the MyFASTag app.
- If there is any problem, call NHAI helpline number 1033.
If you want your journey to be smooth and hassle-free, then follow the rules mentioned above and keep updating and recharging the FASTag on time.
