Final year exam: UGC said, central and state universities cannot refuse exams

Jagran Bureau, New Delhi. The UGC has reacted sharply after the students’ campaign for cancellation of final year examinations of universities and the stance of some states. In the midst of a unilateral announcement of some states not having the examinations, the University Grants Commission (UGC) also said that ‘all universities fall under the guidelines’. Whether it is central or state universities. No one can refuse to believe it. ‘

UGC Secretary Rajneesh Jain said that he too has come to know about the decision of many states not to conduct examinations, soon he will discuss the matter with the concerned states and universities. They will also make them aware of the whole situation. He said that as far as the danger of corona infection is concerned, both the Ministry of Human Resource Development and UGC are fully alert about the safety of students. This is the reason that the decision to hold the proposed examinations in July has been postponed till the end of September. He told that most of the university is ready for examinations. They have also made preparations. After assessing the local conditions, he will soon be able to take a decision on the examinations.

In its revised guide line issued on July 6, the UGC considered the final year examinations necessary. Along with this, universities have been given time till the end of September to get them done. Explain that UGC is the largest regulatory body of universities in the country.

The UGC had released its revised guidelines regarding final year examinations of universities after the approval of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Under this, final year examinations were said to be important. Also, universities were given time till September 30 for this. Apart from this, it was also said that if a student misses the examinations during this period, then they should be given a chance to re-exam in the middle of the current session, based on the appropriate reasons. The UGC has already canceled the first and second year examinations of universities in view of the risk of corona infection. Under this, all these students will now be promoted on the basis of internal assessment. Whereas the final year examinations were asked to be held from July 1 to 15.
