Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday launched the National Monetization Pipeline (NMP) program in New Delhi. Speaking on the occasion, the Finance Minister said that it is important that India understands that the time has come to make the most of our wealth.
According to the Finance Ministry, the National Monetization Pipeline has projected a total monetization potential of Rs 6 lakh crore through core assets of the central government over a period of 4 years from FY 2022 to FY 2025. The Ministry of Finance said that the Ministries of Roads, Transport and Highways, Railways, Power, Pipelines and Natural Gas, Civil Aviation, Shipping Ports and Waterways, Telecommunications, Food and Public Distribution, Mining, Coal and Housing and Urban Affairs are included in the National Monetization Pipeline.
What is the NMP Program In the
National Monetization Pipeline, the central government is planning to raise money from its Brownfield Infrastructure Assets. NMP is a scheme made according to the 4-year plans of the central government. The NMP program can be called a medium-term road map according to the Government’s Asset Monetization Initiative.
Tuhin Kant Pandey, Secretary, Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), said earlier this month that the government was finalizing infrastructure assets worth Rs 6 lakh crore, including national highways and power grid pipelines, whose Monetization will be done. “A national monetization plan of about Rs 6,000 crore is underway, which will have multiple assets from pipeline to power grid pipeline and from national highway to TOT (toll-operate-transfer) and so on,” he had said.
