First Electric Train: Railways has decided to run an electric MEMU to Nandi Hills station, famous among tourists. This train will take you to the tourist places on the heritage line.


Good News for Bengaluru: People living in Bengaluru and travelers visiting there have now got another gift from the Railways. South Western Railways has announced an electric train for the famous Nandi Hills of Bengaluru. Through this MEMU train (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit), passengers will be able to see the beauty of Nandi Hills. This train will run from Devanahalli to Chikballapur.

Nandi Hills is a popular weekend destination. It is about 60 km from Bangalore. This MEMU train has been started from 11th December. The number of this train will be 06593/06594. At present KSR Bengaluru-Kolar DEMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) stops at Nandi station. The famous temple of Bhoganandishwara built on Nandi Hills is just 1.4 km from the station. To reach the top of Nandi Hills you have to go about 18 km more. Hundreds of people reach there every day to watch the sun rise from Nandi Hills.

What will be the timing

MEMU train will reach Nandi Hills station at 6.37 am. Earlier, Railways had also started a one-day tour package on this 108 year old heritage rail route. In this package, Bangalore, Devanahalli and Chikballapur were visited. Devanahalli Fort was also visible. Apart from this, the Adiyogi statue of Isha Foundation built in Chikballapur was rotated at many other places besides the heritage station.

First railway line built by private company

The railway track from Devanahalli to Chikballapur is called heritage line. It is said to be India’s first railway line built through public private partnership. Sir M Visvesvaraya built this line in 1915. He was the Diwan of Mysore state at that time. Sir Visvesvaraya was born in Mudanahalli of Chikballapur.

Dissatisfaction among tourists regarding time

However, tourists have also expressed their displeasure at this time. People said that if the train reaches Nandi Hills so late, tourists will not be able to see the sun rising from there. People also demanded to stop it at Bethalsur station.
