Private sector Axis Bank has announced some new rules for the customers and employees of the gay and bisexual (LGBTQAI) community. The bank has taken this step with the intention of promoting diversity and equality in its work. According to Axis Bank, with these new policies, account holders of the LGBTQIA community will be able to register the partner’s name as a nominee in their bank accounts. For this, Axis Bank has announced a special policy and a charter.
Now LGBTQIA community customers can also open joint accounts and fixed deposit FD accounts with their partners. Along with this, employees will be allowed to mention the names of their partners for availing medical insurance benefits. Whether that partner is female, male or transgender. According to the bank, employees will also be able to wear clothes according to their gender. This step has been taken keeping in mind the social and operation rules of the bank.
Axis Bank became the first such bank
It has become the first bank in the country to implement the rules in any bank. Axis Bank is the first bank in the country to announce special rules and charter for LGBTQIA employees and customers. Various efforts are going on at the government level to bring this community into the mainstream. In this effort, there is also a historic decision of the Supreme Court of the year 2018. In its decision, the Supreme Court made sex between two adult homosexuals out of the purview of crime. If sexual relations are made between two adult homosexuals by mutual agreement, then it cannot be considered as a crime. Whereas earlier it was considered a criminal act.
New rule applicable from September 20

Employees of the LGBTQIA community will be able to use the restroom of their choice. The bank said that it has started toilets for all genders in its major offices. Rajesh Dahiya, Executive Director, Axis Bank said, “Axis Bank has focused on diversity, equality and inclusion that respects and recognizes the importance of multiple identities that transcend gender beliefs. This is a very good thing for us. Axis Bank said that it is focusing on such policies so that there is a level playing field and environment for all in the work.
