Vande Bharat Impact on Air Fares: Vande Bharat train is now having a widespread impact on air travel. Due to these, aviation fares in many cities have come down…
Vande Bharat is being considered as a turning point for Indian Railways. The indigenous Vande Bharat train is making the railway travel experience modern and comfortable. The impact of Vande Bharat is visible quite widely. Now a study says that due to this new train, air fares in many cities are being affected and the fare for traveling by plane is decreasing.
Ticket rates started decreasing on many routes
In an ET report quoting data findings on Vande Bharat train, it has been said that after the introduction of Vande Bharat train on many routes, a decline in air fares has been seen. For example, the report mentions Chennai-Bengaluru, Thiruvananthapuram-Kasaragod, Mumbai-Pune, Jamnagar-Ahmedabad and Delhi-Jaipur routes. It is claimed that compared to April 2023, the flight ticket rates between these cities have reduced by 20 to 30 percent.
This is how flight fares are decided
Actually, the rates of plane tickets are decided dynamically. Dynamic pricing means that if there is an increase in demand and inquiry for tickets for any route, then the fare on that route automatically increases. At the same time, when demand or inquiry decreases, the fare decreases. Currently, operations of Vande Bharat trains have started within the last few months on all the routes on which fares have been said to be reduced in the study.
This percentage of passengers shifted
On this basis, it is being said that with the introduction of Vande Bharat trains, fares have come down because due to these trains, many people have now started choosing the option of traveling by railways instead of traveling by flight. In this regard, it is being told that the number of such passengers is equal to 10 to 20 percent of the customer base of the aviation companies, who have now become passengers of Vande Bharat train.
Understand all the mathematics with this example
The reduction in air fares is being linked to this. Well, this seems natural to some extent. For example, you can see Delhi-Jaipur flight. Currently, the flight fare between these two cities starts from around Rs 2000, while the journey by plane takes one hour. Apart from this, passengers have to reach the airport about 2 hours in advance to board the plane and it also takes an hour or so to deboard. If seen this way, the total time becomes more than 4 hours. Whereas Vande Bharat train makes this journey for Rs 800 and in about 5 hours. That means almost the same time, but less than half the fare. In such a situation, shifting the option of passengers is not a big deal.
