Air India chief said – the company has made a lot of progress after privatization

Air India chief Campbell Wilson said on Wednesday that the company has made a lot of progress since privatization and its global reach will increase further in the coming years. He said that the internal repair work of the single-aisle fleet serving domestic and short-haul international destinations is underway and will be completed by mid-2025. The loss-making Air India was acquired by the Tata Group from the government in January 2022. It is undergoing an ambitious five-year transformation plan. Air India completed the merger of Vistara with itself in 2024 and also integrated Air India Express and AIX Connect.

Its global coverage will increase further in the coming years

Wilson said in his New Year message that these mergers and the supply of new aircraft have increased the number of aircraft in the Air India Group fleet to 300, which will help it expand to more than 100 domestic and international destinations. He said, Air India’s global coverage will increase further in the coming years, as 100 aircraft have recently been added to our order book, which will increase the commitment made for 470 aircraft in 2023. Wilson said these new aircraft will be supported by a new 12-bay maintenance facility and maintenance training school at Bengaluru (Karnataka), a new 34-aircraft flying school at Amravati (Maharashtra) and a training academy at Gurugram (Haryana).
