Airlines have canceled 160 flights to and from Delhi airport for three days during the G-20 summit. For three days, 80 aircraft will neither fly nor return from Delhi airport. DIAL, the company that operates the airport, says that keeping in mind the lack of passengers and the arrangements made by the traffic police on that day, it has applied for the cancellation of the trips. Most of these journeys are to places less frequented by travellers. No flights are being canceled on busy routes.
According to DIAL spokesperson, some airlines have applied for cancellation of some flights for three days during the G-20 summit in India.
Travel cancellation request
There has been a demand to cancel a total of 160 trips to and fro at the Delhi airport so far. This is only 6 percent of the flight from Delhi airport. Sources say that so far space had been sought at the airport for parking 50 aircraft of foreign guests. Out of these, it has been decided to station about 20 aircraft at Air Force Palam Station, 20 aircraft at Terminal-1, 3 aircraft cargo and other aircraft at T-3.
Enough space for planes : Dial
DIAL, which operates the Delhi airport, said on Saturday that it has received applications from airlines to cancel several flights from September 8 to September 10 in view of the G-20 summit. These include 80 departure flights and an equal number of arrival flights. There will be ample parking space at the airport during the convention.
The current news of cancellation of flights has nothing to do with the parking of the aircraft. We have already provided the required parking. Earlier it was reported that airlines were canceling flights in view of traffic restrictions due to the G-20 summit. Indira Gandhi International Airport handles about two lakh passengers daily.
