Artem Korennyak, a representative of the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency, said that this step has been taken to ensure the safety of civil aircraft operations. He said that the aircraft crew, air traffic controllers and airport service are giving top priority to the safety of flights and all necessary measures are being taken.
What is the reason?
According to media reports, the reason for this decision is the recent security incidents. Reports of drone attacks in the Astrakhan region had surfaced, after which concerns about security had increased. Astrakhan Governor Igor Babushkin said Ukraine carried out a drone attack at night, aimed at targeting facilities located in the region.
However, Russian air defense systems and electronic warfare technology played an effective role in preventing the attack, causing no casualties.Meanwhile, Sergei Efremov, the deputy governor of Russia’s Primorye region and former commander of the Tiger volunteer unit, died while returning from a combat mission.
Widespread outrage in Russia
Primorye Governor Oleg Kozhemyako called it a sad day for the region. He said Efremov was a strong-willed leader and skilled organizer.
Efremov led the Tiger volunteer unit after it was established in 2022 and was appointed Deputy Governor of Primorye in 2024. While in this position, he worked on domestic issues of the region but returned to the front line after Ukraine’s invasion of the Kursk region.
He is the highest-ranking Russian officer to be killed during the Russia-Ukraine conflict. There is widespread outrage in Russia after his death.
