Former Maharashtra CM Shivajirao Patil Nilangekar, hospitalized after Corona

Nilangekar was admitted to a hospital in Pune after the corona virus was confirmed last month.




Senior Congress leader and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Shivajirao Patil Nilangekar died in Pune on Wednesday (August 5, 2020). Senior Congress leader Nilangekar from Latur in Marathwada region was the Chief Minister of the state from June 1985 to March 1986. He was 88. He resigned from the post of chief minister in 1985 to ‘help his daughter and her friend’ due to allegations of alleged tampering of MD exam results.




He founded the Maharashtra Education Trust in 1968. He also established four colleges, 12 higher secondary schools and 15 primary schools under the Education Society. Maharashtra Pharmacy College, Nilanga was established in 1984. Shivajirao Patil was born in Nilanga.
Nilangekar was admitted to a private hospital in Pune after the corona virus was confirmed last month. A senior official associated with the case said that the former CM was having trouble breathing. After which he got his corona test done and his report came positive. Sources associated with the former CM’s family say that he died due to kidney disease. According to media reports, the last rites of Nilangekar will be performed in Nilanga today.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the demise of the former CM and said that he served the state with diligence. Modi tweeted, ‘Shri Shivajirao Patil Nilangekar was a pioneer of Maharashtra politics. He served the state diligently. He worked specially for the welfare of farmers and the poor. He said, ‘I am saddened by his demise. My condolences to his family and supporters. om Shanti.’




Let me tell you that when the corona virus was confirmed to the Congress leader, he shifted from Nilanga Town in Latur district to Pune. He was a sociable and powerful leader of Latur. His grandson Sambhaji Patil Nilangekar is a BJP MLA and was a Labor Minister in the former Devendra Fadnavis government.
