Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Saturday that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has decided to extend its free ration scheme for six months till May 2022. CM Kejriwal has also written a letter to PM Modi in this regard.
CM Kejriwal said on Twitter, “Delhi government is extending its free ration scheme to the poor for six months. I wrote a letter to the Prime Minister urging that the central government also extend its ration scheme for six months. People They are in a lot of trouble right now. It will not be right to leave their hands at this time.”

The Delhi government distributes free ration to the beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) and PMGKAY. There are more than 2,000 fair price shops in Delhi, there are 17.77 lakh ration card holders and around 72.78 lakh beneficiaries.
The needy are given free ration in addition to the subsidized food grains distributed through ration shops. PMGKAY was launched in March last year to address the crisis caused by COVID-19. Initially this scheme was started for April-June last year, but later it was extended to November 30. Now the Center has decided to close it.
