Gold was trading up 0.52% at $ 1,960.10 an ounce in New York.
Silver was trading up 0.98% at $ 27.37 an ounce in New York.
With the spurt in demand for gold in the futures market on Friday, the bookies strengthened their grip, with the gold price rising 82 rupees, to 51,535 rupees per 10 grams. On the other hand, silver rose 236 rupees, to 68,378 rupees per kilogram in futures trading.
Gold prices edge up
The price of gold delivered in October on the Multi Commodity Exchange rose by Rs 82, or 0.16 per cent, to Rs 51,535 per 10 grams, with 9,286 lots traded. Gold rose 0.52% in New York to trade at $1,960.10 an ounce.

Silver price gains
Silver rose 236 rupees, or 0.35 percent, to Rs 68,378 per kg on the Multi Commodity Exchange for December delivery, with 17,076 lots traded. Silver rose 0.98% to $27.37 an ounce in New York.
Thursday was on the bounce
The price of gold, which was delivered in October on Thursday, fell by Rs 404, or 0.78 per cent, to Rs 51,420 per 10 grams, with 10,142 lots traded. Gold, which was delivered in December, dropped by Rs 393, or 0.76 per cent, to Rs 51,595 per 10 grams, with 8,192 lots traded.
On the other hand, the price of silver for December delivered on the Multi Commodity Exchange declined by Rs 981, or 1.43 per cent, to Rs 67,800 per kg, with 16,983 lots traded.
